Catena puts the Fathers beside the verse they were writing about. Open a chapter and the commentary of the early Church is already there: what Chrysostom said about this sentence, what Augustine drew from it, what Cyril answered. No searching, no second book, no seminary library.

The work began in 2015, in Ontario, Canada, among a group of Coptic Orthodox Christians who wanted to read the Bible the way the Church has read it. It has since grown to tens of thousands of verse-by-verse commentaries, a daily lectionary for several traditions, and a library of the Fathers themselves.

It runs on the web and as an app on iOS and Android. Every part of it is built and kept by volunteers who give their evenings to it.
